The Norwegian Year of Cultural Heritage

The fortress trails are the National Fortification Heritage’s contribution to The Norwegian year of Cultural Heritage 2009, which focuses on everyday cultural heritage and on establishing walking trails all over Norway.

The Norwegian Year of Cultural Heritage aims to shed light on the diversity of our cultural heritage. Norway has 14 fantastic fortresses from Vardøhus Fortress in the north to Fort Mølvik in the south. These fortresses are important communicators of a 700-year-long military history and are a part of our common, national cultural heritage.
